We welcome the third chapter in Summer Flake’s brooding guitar pop trilogy!

Recorded between studios and home, ‘Seasons Change’ sees the return of audio engineers Geoffrey O’Connor (The Crayon Fields, Sly Hats) and Evelyn Ida Morris (Pikelet), James Mannix returns on drums and Antony Bourmas on bass.

‘Seasons Change’ sees Steph Crase consider ideas of self-identity, movement, and the indiscriminate yet deeply personal sense of yearning for growth. Following an organic, non-curated writing process, it was only with hindsight that Crase was able to realise the inter-connectedness of the themes present within the record, saying “I thought all the songs were such separate, free-standing, very different ideas. I’m slow to write, and usually just play with one idea at a time. I didn’t realise until near the end of production how tightly connected and repetitive the themes and lyrics were.”

Crase describes the album as having “more pace than my previous records - little flashes of optimism, upbeat moments, but still simmering with anxiety and panic, and the wobbling uncertain desire for change.

‘Seasons Change’, the third record from Summer Flake, released to the world via Rice Is Nice on August 30th 2019.

I’m not a mind reader But I’m picking up your psychic pain Even though I’m not a mind reader I hear everything you won't say I see you got hours to burn But not a minute for me today Even though I’m no timekeeper I feel every second slipping away Monday to Sunday’s my merry-go-round Can’t look over my shoulder with my head in the sand Sunday to Monday’s a blink and you're dead Until then babe you'd better get out of my head I can’t breathe Said I’m not a mind reader But I’m picking up your psychic pain Even though I’m not a mind reader I’m seeing things that I can't explain They say ‘sleep soundly in the dark’ But you’ve gotta move into the light, into the light Into the light of day Even though I’m no mind reader I know something isn’t right here Is that a cloud on your face when I see you again? Can’t run around the corner with my feet in cement Dirty glass, broken tiles and an unmade bed So loud now baby better get out of my head I can’t breathe

In The Dark 02:33
I’m not quick with big decisions I’m not good late night at the bar I’ve got piles of dirty dishes Apologies only get ya so far Ohhh in the dark If the tide gets too close can you build a raft? Not everyone knows When it’s time to go I was searching for your weakness Intentionally stepping on your toes Pouring water on my own mattress Tiny holes in all your favourite clothes Ohhh in the dark If the dawn seems too far can you make your own spark? Not everyone knows When it’s time to go

Where can I turn it off? Where can I lay my head? When people say That girl’s insane That she’s to blame What she been saying Where can I pull the plug? Where can I hang my neck? You built my maze Give the crowd a wave When the sun beats down It burns my face I’m reaching out Put my hand in the fire I’m reaching out For someone to shine a light on I’m reaching out For a sign in the wire I’m reaching out Put my hand in the fire And I walk home after dark And I go through the park after midnight And I go to my girlfriend’s place of work And have a cig or a drink if I have a thirst No one’s gonna tell me what to do No one’s gonna sell me what to say No one’s gonna shout me out their car No one’s gonna say how close how far how close how far how close how far how close how far Now I’m reaching out Put my hand in the fire Now I’m reaching out For someone to shine a light on Now I’m reaching out For a sign in the wire Now I’m reaching out Put my hand in the fire
